“Bleeding Arizona”

I’d like to share with you a revealing, deeply disturbing overview of the chaotic, violent situation on the Arizona-Mexico border that was written by a former editor and reporter for the Voice of America, which you can find on the website of The American Conservative.

Opening with the ruthless murder of Arizona rancher Rob Krentz, the act that catalyzed support for the passage of SB 1070, the author of the piece goes on to explain, with meticulous detail, just how and why the violence perpetrated by Mexican drug cartels and their paramilitary arms has seeped so far into American territory. Although I don’t necessarily agree with all of his conclusions, especially the floating of a potential (partial) amnesty, the essay itself is an exemplary illustration of the type of journalism that border security issues should be met with, and which hopefully will be the norm in future reportage.
