Today is a somber, nationwide day of reflection. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was intended to honor the sacrifices made by the Union war dead-the South has its own traditions-but is now a commemoration of the lives of all American servicemen and women who’ve fallen in battle. Unfortunately, even this occasion cannot escape the long march of the post-60s countercultural left. Joe Guzzardi explains how our nation’s leaders have corrupted yet another American institution, this time the one dedicated explicitly to preserving our rapidly eroding freedoms and sovereignty.
