Refugees vs. Illegal Aliens

The New York Times published a remarkably fair piece this week about Arizona’s hospitality towards recent refugees who have settled in the state. Considering the paper of record’s almost uniformly dreadful coverage of SB 1070′s policy implications, the fact that this story was even written is a pleasant surprise.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Times piece without the requisite outpouring of sympathy for an undocumented worker, which in this case is a Mexican criminal named Victor Acevedo. A man who not only enjoys his cannabis, but who operates his automobile while in possession of his drug of choice. Even so, the reporter does allow two refugees who recently resettled in Arizona to explain why men like Mr. Acevedo shouldn’t be allowed to violate American laws with impunity, which is progress.

Read the piece for yourself though; I think it will be a nice antidote to the stream of uninformed, anti-Arizona vitriol that the mainstream media and sundry open borders advocates have fed the country since the enactment of SB 1070.
