I have to thank Cindy Kolb, a tireless activist from Arizona fighting to secure our border from what increasingly looks like an invasion, for the following links. The first is a story from a local ABC news affiliate in Arizona that examines the challenges faced by Border Patrol agents in one of the most active sectors for drug and human smuggling in the country.
Notwithstanding the somewhat benign spin a public relations officer in the article puts on trials faced by members of the Border Patrol, and presumably, the Arizona residents who are often the first people illegal aliens and smugglers encounter, this is a huge, ongoing problem that needs to be addressed by the federal government.
Perhaps nothing illustrates the perils of our unsecured border more than a website called Desert Visions, which chronicles the litany of horrors present in the borderlands between Mexico and the United States, including the infamous “rape trees.” Anyone who might be skeptical of the harrowing stories told about our nation’s border towns, or who might question the utility of a law like SB 1070, needs to explore that website.
