SB 1070 On Trial

On a day when one of the nation’s most prolific lens tics decided to propose a law as preposterous as his political career, there was a Senate hearing ostensibly designed to explore the constitutional implications of SB 1070. In reality, it was a transparent attempt by Democrats to influence the Supreme Court, as the Arizona Capitol Times points out in a lengthy recap of the hearings.

Oral arguments in this case will occur later today, and the political kabuki of Durbin & Co. was rightly shunned by Governor Jan Brewer, although-as you can see below-the landmark law’s author, Russell Pearce, still managed to expose the ignorance of his inquisitors.
Enjoy the fireworks.
