Update: Why DACA must end

For those of you on the Trump Train, I have some disappointing news. It seems that the President, at least, if we’re to believe his chief mouthpieces, has accepted DACA as a fait accompli. Although Mark Krikorian’s post in NRO frames this as an open question, the truth is that we’ve been given no indication that Donald Trump plans to do away with his predecessor’s unconstitutional administrative amnesty. The fact that he didn’t terminate this program on his first day in office means he has already broken one of his main campaign promises on the subject of immigration.

In terms of draining the swamp, we’re off to a rough start.

Crossing Borders http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/12/crossing-borders/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/12/crossing-borders/#respond Tue, 08 Dec 2015 05:02:03 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=19778 Author: David Osborn (aeroprints)

For those of you who are still wondering why the issue of who we admit to the United States from abroad is so controversial these days, I would recommend reading this story about a little incident which occurred on an international flight this weekend. The nationality of the failed Shaheed is unclear, but something tells me that-like Syed Farook-he was a beneficiary of our country’s increasing hospitality towards the developing world.

And while the cadres of the Islamic State no doubt want to keep most of their tax-paying slaves within ISIS-controlled territory-if for no other reason than to bolster their finances-the idea that they aren’t simultaneously attempting to insert future martyrs into the stream of refugees flooding into Europe, Canada and the United States is patently absurd. Indeed, no less than the head of the House’s Homeland Security Committee has affirmed that this is part of their strategy.

So while the President’s decision to exercise greater scrutiny over certain visa programs-once he’s alerted to their existence-is worthy of a golf clap, it’s a bit misguided, given the parlous state of our systems of immigration enforcement. Or non-enforcement, as the case increasingly seems to be.

Oh well. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, after all. Let’s hope there are still some of us with feet by the time our government starts exercising some prudence in whom it allows onto American soil.

The New Tower Of Babel http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/10/the-new-tower-of-babel/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/10/the-new-tower-of-babel/#respond Wed, 07 Oct 2015 04:02:36 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=19538 Mark Levin speaking at CPAC 2015 in Washington, DC. Mark Levin’s blistering take on the latest report demonstrating the baleful consequences of the 1965 Immigration Act is a must-listen! You can view the Center for Immigration Studies backgrounder here and the full report here. It makes for grim, but necessary, reading during a week when the gatekeepers of open borders, see NPR,  are spending hours trumpeting the virtues of what is incontestably the worst piece of domestic legislation enacted during the last half-century.

Grassfire has initiated a petition drive to mobilize Congress to defang local officials that insist upon endangering American citizens. You can sign the petition here, as well as learn more about the proposed law and its sponsor, Congressman Matt Salmon, here. Even as feckless Obama cronies in the Department of Homeland Security disclaim responsibility for the lawless immigration system they’ve fostered, there are some members of Congress, however few in number, wiling to stand up in defense of American lives. They deserve our support, as does the family of the late Kathryn Steinle.

Turning On The Spigot http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/04/turning-on-the-spigot/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/04/turning-on-the-spigot/#respond Sun, 26 Apr 2015 15:05:11 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=18854

In one remarkably concise exchange we arrive at a simple truth that has been obscured behind a veil of lies by the Obama White House and its enablers  in the fourth estate. The scores of illegal aliens from Central America who have been ushered into the United States by this administration-and presumably, the many more whose children will be given a first class ticket across the border by DHS-will never be returned to their countries of origin and U.S. citizens will continue to defray the ever-increasing cost of their upkeep. In fact, our government is contemplating new and innovative ways of defrauding American taxpayers in order to resettle more migrants from south of the border.

Prepare for more Uncle Onyangos and Aunt Zeitunis, America.

The father of Jamiel Shaw asks some pointed, very disturbing questions which this administration and Congress have yet to answer.

Super Bowl Sunday http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/02/super-bowl-sunday/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/02/super-bowl-sunday/#respond Sun, 01 Feb 2015 09:06:37 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=18500 320px-US_Customs_and_Border_Protection_officers

Ignore the misleading headline; the actual institutions “tackling” the purported scourge of merchandise unapproved by the National Football League are local law enforcement agencies and the Department of Homeland Security. That’s right, the cabinet-level, taxpayer-funded agency designed to ensure the safety of American citizens is acting as the Pinkerton (agency) for Roger Goodell’s incredibly flush, tax-exempt, legally protected monopoly.

Beyond the dubious assertion of privilege-the NFL has a history of legally threatening small business owners-there’s the obscenity of ICE and CBP allocating extraordinarily scare resources-or so we’re told-to matters which have absolutely nothing to do with immigration enforcement. Is it any wonder that virtually no illegal aliens, in any substantial numbers, are being deported?

If this post seems like a broken record, it’s probably because you remember reading identical complaints in years past. As Mark Steyn has observed, the more the state grows, and the more duties accrue to its subsidiary arms, the less proficient it becomes at managing one of its chief duties, i.e. ensuring the survival of its citizens from foreign threats. There’s no better illustration of this maxim than the transformation of the Department of Homeland Security into the enforcer for the NFL. It’s something to contemplate as you sit down to watch Super Bowl XLIX later today.

Penny Pinching http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/07/penny-pinching/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/07/penny-pinching/#comments Wed, 09 Jul 2014 04:45:06 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=17395 400197-200px

If there’s one thing this administration is proficient at, it’s squandering the hard-earned wealth of its subjects. Sorry, its citizens. A perfect illustration of the contempt Barack Obama and his flunkies have for the American people is the newest budget request intended to “deal with” the flood of Central Americans gushing over our southern border. Contrary to the typically inaccurate reporting on this issue, almost all of this money will be earmarked for the resettlement of these uninvited guests in the interior of the United States.

Former Congressman Ernest Istook Jr. explores a much more cost-efficient option in an op-ed for the Washington Times, which we recommend anyone confused about the precise details of the President’s plan read in its entirety. We also would like to highlight a remarkably scathing critique of this latest scheme to bypass immigration controls by open borders advocate and proud Gang of Eight member Jeff Flake, who was invited onto yesterday’s PBS Newshour to debate La Raza alumna Cecilia Munoz.

Just remember, the Obama administration has never told the truth about immigration, so why should it start doing so now?

Operation Pass The Buck http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/06/operation-pass-the-buck/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/06/operation-pass-the-buck/#respond Sun, 29 Jun 2014 15:38:52 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=17342 480px-Jeh_Johnson_official_portrait

You can read full text of Secretary Jeh Johnson’s op-ed here. It is the sort of predictable, CYA press release you would expect from an administration trying to downplay the disastrous consequences of its terribly unpopular immigration policies. Meanwhile, if you want to understand why so many of these unaccompanied minors are flooding into the United States, I suggest reading the Spanish-language press in the Central American countries from which they hail. As is so often the case, you can’t rely upon the American news media or those who have been entrusted with power to give you the unvarnished truth.

Collusion (The Role Of Congress In Promoting Amnesty) http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/06/collusion-the-role-of-congress-in-promoting-amnesty/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/06/collusion-the-role-of-congress-in-promoting-amnesty/#respond Sun, 08 Jun 2014 18:52:52 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=17006 The most frustrating aspect of our government’s current disastrous immigration policy is not the lawless actions of the Obama administration in pursuit of its agenda of open borders, but the connivance of an ostensibly Republican House in its flagrant subversion of the law. Andy Ramirez, founder and president of the  Law Enforcement Officers Advocates Council and expert on border security and immigration enforcement, delineates the ways in which this complicity has hurt Americans in a comprehensive essay published last week, which I encourage you all to read.

The pervasive flouting of the law by the Executive branch could never have taken place if our Congress had not relinquished its duty to check the illegal actions of Barack Obama and his administration, much less openly and proudly scheme for ways in which to cement our government’s open borders policy through legislative action. Mr. Ramirez shows just how deleterious this failure on the part of Congress has been to the lives of innocent American citizens and their families.
