April 22, 2017 – 10:30am – Columbus Circle.

The MARCH FOR SCIENCE was billed as a non-political march.

It was anything but non-political.

Part One – Flickr slide show

The Climatemania apostles arrived. As this “World of PURE IMAGINATION” assembled, the smug and oh-so-joyful  (well-informed) partisans mocked the Repub -“ignorati”and all things Trump. Marching confidently to their different drums with a level of arrogance and naive ignorance that was astounding to behold. Little pleasures, watching the smirks leave their faces when greeted by two stalwart Trump Patriots. “Thank God for Trump.” And (later), greeting the marchers as they passed though Columbus Circle: “Trump in 2020”. Comments and jeers were accompanied by that timeless classic: “Shame. Shame. SHAME!”  The partisan march began at approximately 11:30.  Another very, VERY long procession that moved slowly from 62nd Street and CPW to 53rd and Broadway. The “Trump For 2020″ patriot from the start was greeted with “Boo. Boo. BOOO For Trump !” (and of course) SHAME! Shame! Shame!! Part 2 : Flickr Slide show as the LONG March begins to weave through Columbus Circle. NY-wise 62 st to 53rd st was not much of a distance so going SLOOOOW was important. The marchers were organized into groups of specialties …. pairing like-minded messages into “sympatico group-lets”…. teachers, librarians, scientists, lab rats, religious thinkers –

and … humorists … (No science – no cupcakes!)

Krypton. Mars. You name it. They were there.

Even those who care for the little children.

To Vaccinate-or NOT-was apparently a hot, PARTISAN topic.

Part 3: Flickr Slide Show:  The march rolled on and on … AND on. I marveled at the never-ending ignorance, arrogance and humor.  FINALLY, the end approacheth. The tell-tale thinning of the crowd was a relief.

Spread the joy. Educate. Illuminate.

How much JOY can one take in one march?

YOU LOST . Get over it!

Part 4  Flickr Slide Show :  The END of the very, VERY Long March of the smugly elite.  But, I repeat, seeing the “Trump in 2020” banner wiping the grin off many stunned faces in the crowd was fun. Plain and simple FUN.  To clarify, April 22, 2017 – 10:30am – Columbus Circle was only one of two events planned in NYC. (I missed this. Too much rain)

Noon, Foley Square was the other rally (with loads of speakers) and this unapologetic rally was POLITICAL.

Looking closely at EARTH DAY 2017, this YUGE, joyful parade of gullibles was comprised of pretty much the same malcontents who participated in the People’s Tax Day March and the Foolish Women’s Day March.

They feel complete again as they march and chant like the ELOI they are.

NOT an independent thinker amongst the hoards of disaffected with “replicant” signs proving the theory “Ignorance IS Bliss“. (Have they no PRIDE?) Looking ahead to their next big event, “Commie May Day,” aka “Workers Unite  Day.” It too is dedicated to “There is only one solution: Revolution.”  As they Smile. Laugh and March on . (Are they winning?)  [Video] https://youtu.be/aAipEe6qewE ADDENDUM : A link to a few articles on the Left, detailing our culture wars and how things are shaping up:  From Daniel Greenfield:

What is satire saving the Republic from? Republicans. While making America safe for Socialism.

The left is devoutly convinced that this snickering can save America. That it’s better than the news. But the left’s faith in the power of its contempt has nothing to do with its tactical effectiveness.

Satire isn’t trying to save the Republic. It isn’t stopping Trump. It’s saving the left. Liberals need to believe that even their pettiest acts are ennobling.

What a piece of work is a progressive. How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty. In action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god.

Contempt is the final refuge of failed tyrants. If you can’t rule, you can always sneer.

The left’s faith in contempt tells us far more about them than it does about the objects of their contempt. Art is a reflection of the artist. Some artists strive to create while others only destroy. The left remains convinced that it can create through destruction, that it can build a fair society through theft, an ethical society by destroying its values and a high-minded society through contempt.

It must believe in the redemptive power of its thievery, amorality and hatred. Or face a moral reckoning.

AOL One   &   AOL Two

Earth Day events that organizers have framed a “celebration” of science to counter a growing disregard for evidence-based knowledge.

March for Science, which includes “teach-ins” on the National Mall and parades in midtown Manhattan and hundreds of other cities and towns, is billed as non-partisan, aimed at re-affirming “the vital role science plays in our democracy,” according to the march’s website.

They scream re Trump and ” his administration’s skepticism about climate change and the need to slow global warming.” THEY have decided what is convenient fact: REAL FACTS be damned.

Non-partisan is NOT a TRUE fact. It is an Alternative Fact for their convenience. From Katie Pavlich:

Resist This, whose motto was “we disrupt”: From Day 1 we have seen what people power can achieve: Trumpcare? Withdrawn. Muslim ban? Blocked. Now Trump’s entire fossil fuel agenda is next, and the People’s Climate March is a crucial turning point in that fight,” an email sent out by the group Friday states.

From John Hawkins:

Is it a shocker that millennials lean to the Left when they constantly have liberalism shoved down their throats by their schools, their favorite musicians, and Hollywood? Is it a big surprise that 51% of millennials do not support capitalism when we allow honest-to-goodness communists to teach them in college and liberals are publicly extolling the virtues of socialist hellholes like Cuba and Venezuela?

More from Town Hall’s Katie Pavlich on the very political organizers behind the Climate march.

From Cortney OBrien: xx an excuse for yet another anti-Trump march in the nation’s capital. The March for Science – the first of its kind – will be a chance for activists to speak out against the Trump administration’s proposed “unprecedented cuts to the sciences in its proposed 2018 budget,” according to Live Science.

participants will be marching against Trump’s decisions to allow construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, roll back the Clean Power Plan, and threaten to pull out of the Paris climate agreement.

The organizers say the march is not partisan – but it is (VERY) political.

Partisans, yes. But I suggest they WIPE that smirk from their collective face, ’cause : We’ll BE THERE! ++ Pictures and videos  Property of Pamela Hall ++

Repeal the NDAA’s Indefinite Detention Provision http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/01/repeal-the-ndaas-indefinite-detention-provision/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/01/repeal-the-ndaas-indefinite-detention-provision/#respond Tue, 31 Jan 2012 02:29:01 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=8725 One of the most controversial pieces of legislation to be signed into law during this session of Congress is the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012. Normally a routine expenditure funding Department of Defense operations, this year’s NDAA gained notoriety for two amendments that could be interpreted to allow for the indefinite detention of American citizens under the auspices of the Authorization of Military Force enacted by Congress in the wake of the September 11th attacks. For reasons-some of which are explored in a wonderfully edifying column by E.D. Kain published prior to NDAA’s passage-too numerous delineate here, this is a terrifically bad idea. However, there are attempts in Congress to repeal this fatally flawed law. To that end, I would like to urge you all to come out and support a rally on behalf of H.R. 3785, which would repeal Section 1021 of this year’s NDAA, which will take place on Staten Island this friday.

All of the details you will need in order to attend are reprinted below.

Staten Islanders and Americans across the country will gather outside congressional offices Feb. 3rd from noon to seven to protest NDAA 2012 (H.R. 1540). We will focus our protest between the hours of 3:30 and 6:30 for the purpose of media. We need to have the largest crowd during this time to demonstrate to the media our opposition to the indefinite detention provision! There will be an information booth set up outside of Rep. Michael Grimm’s office from 9am-7pm handing out information about the bill if anyone wishes to join us in order to educate passersby.

WE CANNOT ALLOW OBAMA OR ANY OTHER PRESIDENT TO HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO DETAIN CITIZENS WITHOUT DUE PROCESS!

The objective of our demonstration is to have Rep. Michael Grimm repeal Section 1021 and Section 1022, which could lead to the indefinite military detention of Americans without due process. Make sure to contact your congressmen as well. The protest is not affiliated with any specific political or grassroots organization. We are uniting as individuals who want to stop this tyranny before it gets worse.

We need to implore Rep. Michael Grimm to support us and vote YES to H.R. 3785, which repeals Section 1021 and 1022 of H.R. 1540 (the NDAA).

NDAA 2012 allows for Americans to be indefinitely detained by the military without access to an attorney or a trial by jury on orders of the executive branch. Amendments to exclude American citizens were rejected by the Obama administration and the U.S. Senate.

NDAA 2012 is unconstitutional! Sections 1021 and 1022 repeal the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th amendments to the Constitution. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land and declares our right to due process. No law can supersede it. We have a right to our day in court with a jury of our peers.

Who voted for the NDAA? Rep. Michael Grimm voted aye to this bill.

Here’s the vote in the United States Senate.

Link to Facebook page.

Join Danny Panzella and others this friday in order to make your voices heard by our elected representatives.

Hearts and Minds http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/11/hearts-and-minds/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/11/hearts-and-minds/#respond Sat, 19 Nov 2011 06:00:08 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=6029 Most people despair of changing the minds of their local alderman or councilman, let alone the “representative” who sits in a remote office somewhere on Capitol Hill. But one way you can influence the debate over immigration is to reach out to those closest to you, including your neighbors. To that end, Picket Across America has devised a plan you can implement with relatively little effort tomorrow morning and afternoon.

Here are the details:

Line the streets of America and take a stand against illegal immigration. Hold a sign that reads,”CAN YOU HEAR US NOW” on one side and your thoughts about illegal immigration on the other. Let’s show Washington that We the People have spoken and have made our wishes clear. Now we demand that something be done about them. Let the majority rule! Tell everyone you know, make fliers and distribute them to people you see on the street. If 84% of the population is against illegal immigration, then we need all of them out in their towns today. Spread the word!

When: November 19th, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM

Where: Every town and city across America

Are We Targeting Islam? http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/11/muslims-up-in-arms/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/11/muslims-up-in-arms/#comments Sat, 19 Nov 2011 02:34:57 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=5933

Update: Welcome to readers from Creeping Sharia. Thanks, once again, to Pamela for the link! We always love getting readers from Atlas Shrugs.

Earlier today I took it upon myself to journey to Foley Square in Manhattan, where an anti-NYPD, anti-intelligence agency gathering sponsored by CAIR, Al-Awda, and Desis Rising Up & Moving, among other Islamic activist organizations, was taking place. For a full recap of what occurred I suggest you check out my Twitter account, which I used to live-tweet the event as it was occurring. However, for now I’ll just lay out my impression of the gathering and thoughts about its message, then let the photographs speak for themselves. The question of whether American citizens should be surveilled, watched, and interrogated for potential terrorist conspiracies is always a touchy one. As Americans we have problems with the notion that domestic investigative and law enforcement agencies are monitoring our activities, regardless of the merits of the case they may be able to mount, and react viscerally to any perceived encroachment upon our privacy.

However, when you have organizations such as CAIR-which was an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism financing case in this nation’s history and whose antecedent organization, the Islamic Association of Palestine, was an offshoot of Hamas-operating inside of your country, to ask agencies charged with protecting us-such as the FBI-to lay off is a bit much. When a group such as the Muslim American Society-another co-sponsor of this rally-which all but admits that it’s a branch of the same tree as the Muslim Brotherhood, is allowed to operate on American soil the notion that Americans would not be interested in their activities is a bit preposterous.

That’s why I think the best solution to this unique dilemma of retaining our open society, yet preventing both terrorism and the loss of our freedoms, is to eliminate the chances of a fifth column developing on American soil. There’s no reason we should allow the mass migration of people who can or will not adapt to American cultural norms to our shores. However, that’s the solution today’s demonstrators rejected wholeheartedly. Now on to the photos.

There was a sparse crowd at the beginning of the rally:

But it began to fill up as the day progressed. I’d estimate that there were somewhere between 70 and 85 people at the height of the rally, including the ubiquitous, green-hatted members of the Marxist National Lawyers Guild.

As well as the self-consciously imposing Muslim “toughs” acting as security for the day’s speakers.

This is a banner from the Muslim Solidarity Committee, an organization founded in order to raise funds for the family members of Yassin Aref and others convicted of rendering support to the Pakistani terror organization Jaish-e-Mohammed.

There were scads of lawyers and law students present, including those from the City University of New York:

And lots of praying, including the adhan, which is not nearly as mellifluous as some people would have us believe.

I wasn’t keeping track, but I did count at least three separate prayers during the time I was there.

And where there’s Islam, there’s proselytization:

There was no love lost between those in attendance and the New York Police Department.

Not that the Central Intelligence Agency was a fan favorite either.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly was a frequent target of enmity, with calls for his dismissal echoing from the speaker’s podium and the crowd.

There were a large number of East Indians in attendance:

Most speakers tried to draw a parallel between the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations that had taken place only a few blocks away, at Zuccotti Park, and today’s festivities. To be fair to the Muslims, they at least had a semi-consistent message going for them.

Not that inveterate, elderly Marxists didn’t try to muddle things a bit.

Their incongruous ally:

Speaking of Marxists, I ran into this gentleman, who denounced “all religions” and talked over one of the many calls to prayer-for which he was chastised by a Muslim participant in the crowd. Perhaps the Red-Green alliance isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, as the Mujahadeen e-Khalq learned the hard way.

One of the more disconcerting images from the rally in Foley Square, aside from the representative of CAIR praising the Detroit imam who was shot by the FBI, was the presence of both the mother and father of three men who were part of the terror plot involving an attack upon Fort Dix. Even though they were not given prime speaking slots-as was the mother of one of the men convicted in the Herald Square bomb plot-the fact that their case was used as an illustration of law enforcement overreach led me to question the true motives of those behind this demonstration.

They knew who the real guilty ones were, i.e. the people assisting the prosecution of terrorist suspects:

Many of the speakers denounced the notion of government informants, evoking images of the more widespread stop snitchin’ campaign prevalent among many African-Americans living in urban communities. Overall, it was a slightly dispiriting experience, although it should be noted that there was at least one East Indian speaker who struck a distinctly conciliatory tone, and yet another speaker who went so far as to commemorate the massacres that occurred on September 11th, 2001, albeit only in the context of condemning other atrocities he saw as being of greater magnitude, e.g. the trans-Atlantic slave trade, expulsion of Native Americans from the interior of the country, and countless other sins we still haven’t atoned for as a nation, according to him.

I think that a lot of the issues raised would be resolved by a more sensible immigration policy, as opposed to the ad hoc, needlessly dangerous and stupid philosophy our government currently espouses, but that’s just my opinion. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

Return To Zuccotti Park http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/10/return-to-zuccotti-park/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/10/return-to-zuccotti-park/#comments Mon, 24 Oct 2011 04:51:31 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=5256

That is a photo of myself and Andrew Wilkow, host of the Wilkow Majority on the Sirius XM Patriot channel, standing outside of Zuccotti Park. He was there this weekend co-hosting a live remote with David Webb, seen below, at the scene of Occupy Wall Street.

The media spotlight continues to shine on those demonstrating at OWS, although whether it’s due to the spectacle of the event itself or the message it is attempting to disseminate remains an open question. There certainly was a carnivalesque atmosphere Saturday, which included a brass orchestra:

As well as theatrical agitprop supporting government movement on climate change:

There was also a full complement of clowns:

As well as those costumed in other garb, including Captain America:

Guy Fawkes:

 And the odd penguin:

As well as a self-professed journalist wearing a barrel:

However, there were individuals at the park with more serious messages. Their causes ranged from the reinstitution of an FDR Era separation between investment and commercial banks:

To personal grievances:

There were also Japanese occupiers who highlighted their opposition to the development of nuclear energy, a hot button issue in the wake of the meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear plant.

A common theme was distress over high student loan payments.

There were also Americans who shared their fellow demonstrators’ antipathy towards nuclear power:

Hydraulic fracturing, which is slated to occur in some upstate New York counties,  was also the subject of intense opposition:

There were those decrying instances of police brutality:

As well as a significant contingent of anti-war activists:

Including critics of President Obama’s muscular-some would say reckless-foreign policy:

Some more clever than others:

Although the President did have his defenders, so perhaps the attempt by national Democrats to mobilize the disenchanted in Zuccotti Park isn’t entirely hopeless.

There were also protestors who wanted to focus on their own pet causes, many of which had little if anything to do with the relationship between corporate America and the government. There were anti-Israel radicals:

As well as those agitating for the release of convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, a mainstay of leftist conclaves.

There were those seeking to emulate EU nations which hope to ban the introduction of genetically modified foods.

I also saw several signs demanding wholesale amnesty for illegal aliens, which came as no surprise.

Perhaps the person who designed that sign is unaware of the fact that President Obama has, in fact, stopped both the raids and the deportations. Nevertheless, there seemed to be a grab bag of perceived problems that occupiers could voice their displeasure with, as this catch-all sign seems to illustrate:

The hard core Marxists made a pitch for their own pet issues, including releasing Cuban spies from the Wasp Network who had been convicted of espionage in the United States. That happens to be a favorite activity of the Castro regime.

Our trade policy, or lack thereof, with Raul Castro’s regime was also targeted:

The detention camp for apprehended Al Qaeda terrorists, which is located in Cuba, was also derided:

Much of the organizational muscle behind Occupy Wall Street, such as it is, comes from organized labor, and union members-both in the public and private sector-were amply represented at Zuccotti Park.

Although there were many national and local labor unions represented, there were also many fringe figures and organizations pamphleteering, including individuals from the ridiculous, discredited 9/11 Truth movement. However, perhaps the most disturbing element that had embedded itself within Zuccotti Park was a cadre of hard-line Marxists, socialists and Communists.

The World Socialist Website had an informational booth inside of the park which offered a wide array of Marxist propaganda for sale.

Including a variety of Trotskyist tracts.

As well as the ever in demand Arabic-language works of  El Jefe :

The words of Malcolm X were also available, albeit in Spanish.

As well as those of Marxist-feminist Evelyn Reed

Not to be outdone, the Socialist Workers Party had copies of its official newspaper for sale-rather ironically, I might add.

One of the other newspapers on display was Dorothy Day’s old employer, The Catholic Worker:

There were a variety of other Marxist-inspired organizations proselytizing, including Socialist Action:

Despite protestations to the contrary by some participants in the Occupy Wall Street movement, there did seem to be some activists who were more than happy to embrace class warfare pretty explicitly.

Even so, there were occupiers who held a distinctly more cooperative point of view, some of whom even advocated policy changes that would push the United States in a more libertarian-oriented direction. Tomorrow, we examine some of those dissenting voices.

Stand Up, Fight Back http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/08/stand-up-fight-back/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/08/stand-up-fight-back/#respond Fri, 05 Aug 2011 20:37:36 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=4112 One of the more insidious ways of eroding American sovereignty is the distribution of Matricula Consular I.D. cards by officials within the Mexican government. This form of identification is used primarily by illegal aliens from Mexico residing in the United States, but as this backgrounder from the Center for Immigration Studies points out, the susceptibility to fraud is so high that these breeder documents can be obtained by almost anyone, including OTMs (Other than Mexicans) that have criminal or even terrorist ambitions.

That’s why I’m encouraging any and all readers who live in the Carolinas and are free this weekend to attend a protest sponsored by ALIPAC and NC Fire, which will be taking place on August 6th and August 7th. The objective is to highlight a scheme to distribute these fraudulent documents throughout the state of North Carolina.  Here are the details you’ll need  in order to participate:

North Carolinians For Immigration Reform and Enforcement (NCFIRE) tells us that the Association of Mexicans in North Carolina (AMEXCAN) and the Consulate General of Mexico will hold an event on August 6th and 7th at the Greenville Convention Center to sell passports, Matricula Consular ID cards, and birth registrations for children born in the United States. It is interesting to note that a U.S. voter registration drive also will held.

The Greenville Convention Center, and by association the Greenville City Council and Pitt County Commission, are wrong to sanction the conduct of an event that gives illegal aliens access to documentation that will make it easier to remain in the U.S. illegally.

Please contact the convention center, and members of the City Council and County Commission, to express your opposition. Contact information and talking points are included below.

Note: NC FIRE and others are organizing a protest during the AMEXCAN/consulate event. If you are interested in participating, it will be held outside the Greenville Convention Center at the corner of Greenville Blvd. and Hooker Rd on Aug. 6th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Aug. 7th from 8 a.m. to noon.

You can find more details about how you can voice your dissent with the Greenville City Council and Pitt County Commission at the link provided above. Hopefully, this will send a strong message to both the Mexican government officials seeking to foster illegal immigration and the craven American officials who are acting as their enablers.

America The Beautiful (Part II) http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/07/american-the-beautiful-part-ii/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/07/american-the-beautiful-part-ii/#comments Sun, 31 Jul 2011 16:27:15 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=3955 Update: Watch video footage of the event taken by my friend, P.H. You can also find more photos she took here.

Update II: Read the entire story on The Silent Majority No More.

Despite protestations to the contrary, which included repeated references to the “diverse” array of illegal aliens demanding that the government explicitly sanction their presence in this country, most of the protesters bore an eerie similarity to the individual seen above. Or to the people in the photographs below:

And strangely enough, almost all of the signs that weren’t in English were in Spanish. Gee, I wonder why that is? I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for that bifurcation. I wonder what it could be. Hmm…

Which isn’t to say that every participant in the “Jericho Walk” was of Latin American heritage. There were, of course, those friendly Korean gentlemen from the Minkwon Center who repeatedly threatened me with physical violence. So I suppose it really was a genuinely multicultural festival celebrating the debasement of American law.

But chimerical diversity wasn’t the primary theme of the protest; the main objective of the protest organizers seemed to be to play upon the sympathies of spectators by emphasizing how immigration enforcement leads to “broken families.” Never let it be said that these opportunists miss a chance to exploit  children for their own political aggrandizement.

In fact, one of the people invited to speak at this event was a 12 year-old girl who was-of course-portrayed as a helpless victim of America’s draconian immigration policies.

Left unspoken was the feelings of anguish and irreparable loss felt by American families where a parent has been killed by an illegal alien, such as in the case of murdered actress and independent filmmaker Adrienne Shelly.

Those strips of cloth that resemble sheets of shredded toilet paper were on top of poles held aloft by the marchers as they paraded around the Javits Building. Inscribed upon each was the name of an illegal alien who had been deported from the United States, which is evidently a fate worse than death. At least, according to the individuals who organized this demonstration.

There were, inevitably, politicians who fully agreed with this point of view, including the congresswoman from Flatbush, Yvette D. Clarke. The daughter of Jamaican immigrants-one of whom was just as ineffective a politician as she-perhaps it’s not surprising that Ms. Clarke would endorse wholesale amnesty. Still, the press release issued by her office in support of this demonstration reveals the vapidity of the arguments behind the movement to erase our national boundaries.

Shockingly enough, large public sector labor unions were also in attendance:

Fortunately, there were good Americans there to counter the mawkish sentimentality, false analogies, and general bunkum put forward by the other side. The leader of the counter-demonstration was Joanna Marzullo, president of New Yorkers for Immigration Control and Enforcement, seen below:

She brought along her supporters, including many with messages of solidarity for the good people of Arizona…

And New Yorkers critical of Governor Cuomo’s decision to unilaterally suspend New York’s participation in the extremely successful Secure Communities initiative.

My personal favorite:

One of the ironic aspects of this farcical protest was the abundance of officers from Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland Security. Even as the speakers, many of them undocumented themselves, denounced the ruthless immigration raids undertaken by federal law enforcement, dozens of ICE agents and DHS officers ambled around the premises, not interrogating any of the irate, out of status participants in the day’s festivities.

Ban The Scan (Rally in Union Square) http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/06/ban-the-scan-rally-in-union-square/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/06/ban-the-scan-rally-in-union-square/#comments Sun, 12 Jun 2011 06:17:30 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=3215

One of the more interesting portions of Manhattan’s geography is Union Square Park, which serves as a farmer’s market, transit hub, and rallying point for political activists of varying political stripes. One of the groups that has used Union Square to showcase its views, both today and in the past, is the Communist Party.

However, this past friday saw a protest sponsored by the New York Libertarian Party that was entitled Ban the Scan, and intended to speak out against what it perceives as misguided policies initiated by the Transportation Security Administration, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security ostensibly designed to secure American airways and air travelers from terrorist threats.

To demonstrate the weirdness of the City on certain days, one of the first groups of people I encountered was a band of Hare Krishnas. Presumably, they weren’t concerned with being screened by TSA agents, although I can’t help but think they would be some of the first ones pulled out for extra screening.

I encountered a significantly more disturbing sight as I walked towards the subway terminal where I spotted a group of posters that I assumed were related to the upcoming protest. It turns out-and an organizer of the anti-TSA rally assured me this was the case-that the group in question wasn’t associated with the rally at all, but was rather a conglomeration of Truthers, whose continued stupidity can only be properly satirized through a Cox & Forkum cartoon.

Although the fact that this group of paranoid, borderline schizophrenic gadflies has diminished in the decade since the September 11th massacres committed by Al Qaeda is heartening, it still irritates me whenever I see members crawl out from underneath their highway overpasses and caves in order to berate people who have endured more terrorist attacks and attempted terrorist attacks than anyone else in this country.

There were more conventional political activists who showed up for the TSA rally, including several fervent Ron Paul supporters:

Perhaps not surprisingly, one of the sponsors of this rally was Rep. Ron Paul’s political organization, Campaign for Liberty.

Many of the signs focused on the intrusiveness of TSA screenings, which were analogized to sexual harassment.

Other avenues of attack focused on the perceived abrogation of the right to travel by the TSA and urged airline passengers to opt out of both full body scans and pat-downs, or highlighted the alleged health dangers posed by scanners.

This was probably the least persuasive line of argument used by TSA opponents during the event. As has been pointed out by people much more well-versed in this subject than me, the levels of radiation these scanners expose you to is not nearly enough to put your health or life at risk. The first LP activist to speak made a much more persuasive case that these methods of screening passengers are not cost-effective either from an economic or national security standpoint.

In a compelling, if overlong, speech decrying  our current Homeland Security initiatives, he explored how we could have a much more efficacious method of passenger screening by implementing the model used by El-Al. Israel’s national airline relies upon extensive behavioral profiling that focuses on obvious risks, and not benign grandmothers, six year-old children, or anyone else sure to provoke a TSA horror story.

My own view is that while there are undoubtedly some very capable, very hard-working TSA agents, the current system does not work for anyone. And the definitive proof that this is the case is that while you can cite Customs and Border Patrol agents, members of the Armed Forces,  CIA agents, and even electronics store clerks who have broken up potential terrorist plots, the TSA has yet to thwart a significant terrorist plot on American soil. I doubt rallies like the one shown in this photo-essay will do anything to prod the federal government to adopt any sensible reforms, but the fact that some people are not satisfied with the current, ad hoc approach to combating terror in the skies is inescapable.

May Day Part II: America Strikes Back http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/05/may-day-part-ii-america-strikes-back/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/05/may-day-part-ii-america-strikes-back/#comments Thu, 05 May 2011 05:55:35 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=2681

Update: My good friend was also at at the May Day events and has some fantastic video footage, which you can find at The Silent Majority No More. The rest of her coverage can be found at her website as well. More video from the day’s festivities can be found on Youtube.

As promised, today I will present the conclusion to American Rattlesnake’s May Day coverage, including the robust, sustained-and to our country’s enemies, deeply irritating-counter-protest staged by this website’s editor-in-chief in collaboration with New York Ice.

As you can see by the photo above, our critics-in this case, the feral, reflexively violent antifa thugs who met us at Foley Square-were not eager to be photographed. Whether that was out of concern for being identified by NYPD officers the next time they attempt to assault a peaceful assembly of dissident voices, or out of respect for the hundreds of visitors who would be forced to look at their faces in the following days is something I’ll  let you decide.

Fortunately, there were a few “anti-fascists” who I was able to detain for a brief snapshot. This young woman, for example, evokes memories of a young Faye Dunaway, perhaps after being hit with a tire iron. An arresting image, nonetheless.

This zaftig Mexican girl below was particularly aggrieved by my unobtrusive photography that day, although I can’t for the life of me discern why. After bombarding me with some choice expletives for several minutes, she was gently escorted beyond police barricades by some NYPD officers and asked to remove her  jaunty black bandana/face-mask.

At this point, the street theater they were attempting-by ripping signs from the hands of counter-protesters, showering us with abuse, and generally acting like ignoramuses-descended into farce, as the well-fed IA began to weep like a  young child whose favorite plaything has been ripped from her arms.

Even though these photos might lead you to  believe there was a sarin or mustard gas attack upon Foley Square, the truth is that the nose-holding and face-covering is merely part of the theatrical element antifa crybabies brought to the fore during their ridiculous posturing that day. I think you can judge its effectiveness by the look on the face of the Muslim man pictured below.

As entertaining as the black-clad anarchists were, there was also much amusement to be found throughout the rally, including on stage. The African-American gentleman in the background is, ironically enough, named Clarence Thomas. Leader of the radical International Longshore & Warehouse Union-Local 10, he was joined on stage by the afternoon’s emcee, who spent the better part of two hours explaining why her organization had decided to hold two separate rallies which were both ended prematurely.

I AM ASKED WHY WE DECIDED TO HOLD TWO RALLIES, AND MY ANSWER IS…BECAUSE…!

The last declamation was followed in short order by a tangent having absolutely no bearing on the ostensible reason for staging this rally. In other words, even the people who organized this event had absolutely no clue why they were there in the first place. I wish I could say I was surprised by this revelation.

There were also some festive people in Indian, or as the politically correct stewards of speech would say “indigenous,” dress doing a rain dress which was strangely ineffective.

And of course, what illegal alien friendly event would be complete without someone spouting completely inaccurate, misleading statistics that are easily debunked?

Thankfully, on this day the masses of pro-amnesty, anti-American, revanchist reds were confronted by a group of Americans, some of them immigrants themselves, who saw the need to assert their views amidst the cacophony of stridently anti-American voices. Although initially outnumbered, we stood our ground and endured to the end, even outlasting the loud, obnoxious, but morally bankrupt forces that had tried to colonize Foley Square that afternoon.

My favorite part of the day, bar none, was when a group of hostile illegal aliens and socialists attempted to heckle us into submission but were silenced once we withdrew our driver’s licenses and photo identification. When we asked them where their papers were, accompanied by the chorus to the great 1980s Genesis tune, Illegal Alien, we were greeted with shame-faced silence and dumb stares. A small victory, it was nevertheless an  extremely gratifying moment.

Joanna Marzullo, president of New Yorkers for Immigration Control and Enforcement, expresses her point of view. You can find video coverage of her part in the counter-demonstration on Youtube.

Even in the Big Apple, there are people who stand with Arizona, as this past May Day demonstrated.

The lesson to be drawn from this event, IMO, is that no matter how outnumbered you might feel when fighting the hordes of radical, open borders crusaders, there are always people willing to stand by your side when you defend basic American values.

D-Day. May Day Photos and Coverage: Part I http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/05/d-day-may-day-photos-and-coverage-part-i/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/05/d-day-may-day-photos-and-coverage-part-i/#comments Wed, 04 May 2011 06:57:57 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=2640

My apologies for beginning this entry with such a startlingly vulgar image, but I thought it appropriate to visually demonstrate the level of debate I encountered from open borders anarchists during the May Day rally held at Foley Square. These two characters-who obviously eschew fasting as a form of political protest-are from the very violent, yet strangely ineffectual, organization known as Antifa. They oppose what they describe as “fascism” by replicating the methods and tactics of brownshirts. More on them later.

I will begin our journey into the depths of Marxist inadequacy, however, chronologically. I, Joanna Marzullo, in addition to several members of her organization, New York Ice-as well as the inestimable Marinka Peschmann-began our counter-protest by situating ourselves across from Union Square, an historic gathering place for political demonstrations of all stripes from the time of the Civil War to our own confused political era.

As you might also notice, the message the organizers of this rally intended to send to the general public was incoherent, to say the least. In addition to those hailing the recent legal victory of notorious cop-killer Wesley Cook, as well as the rich political legacy of Fidel Castro’s favorite executioner, there were anti-war critics of President Obama-a consistent theme of this year’s events:

The union representing CUNY teachers:

Clinically obese supporters of one of Mexico’s most resonant fashion icons:

A curiously anachronistic, but nonetheless enthusiastic, group commemorating the service of America’s finest Stalinist mercenaries-probably veterans of the Spanish Civil War, now that I think of it.

And one man who held aloft a sign that I would have immediately classified as racist, had he not assured me he was no longer a member of the Tea Party.

There were also those generic Marxist-Leninists and anarcho-Communists whom we’ve all come to love and admire. Or at the very least, smirk at knowingly as they enter Starbucks to buy their Triple Mocha Latte.

Although by this point in my photo-essay you could be forgiven for assuming that the May Day rally in support of “immigration reform” and “labor” was actually an incoherent grab-bag of left wing fetishes, there were actually some indications-however nebulous-that at least a handful of people were actually aware of the purpose of the May 1st rally. This photograph, for instance, tries to evoke compassion for those poor anchor babies whose families are the victims of deportation raids. What makes the tableaux all the more unsettling is the fact that this young girl is obviously going to contribute greatly to American society through her peace activism, which hopefully will be more focused than that of the people who conceived of this event.

I also met perhaps the two most polite and civil protesters of the day, who also happen to be an inter-ethnic couple:

I don’t know whether that man’s Mexican husband is undocumented, but there is no denying that he has a distinctive fashion sense that Americans, at least those Americans at this particular May Day rally,  are sorely lacking. Interestingly enough, I met another man by the name of Scott Sanchez who is also married to an immigrant. In his case, a Scottish woman, which would explain the royal Scottish flag he was holding when I spoke with him for this website.

He was also extraordinarily civil. Unfortunately, he was the singular exception at the main protest rally held in Foley Square, which I shall explore in greater depth in tomorrow’s post. Keep watching for my thoughts on the Antifa theater of the absurd, as well as some pictures of respectable American citizens who want everyone to be equal under the law.
