Update: TPP is deadfor now. Roll Call 362.

Even as Republican leaders of the House of Representatives whip votes for President Obama, the fate of the Trans-Pacific Partnership remains in doubt. Assuming any Republican congressmen exist who actually value the opinions of their constituents, they’d be wise to read the coverage of Breitbart News  regarding the TPP. Particularly the galling insertion of clauses explicitly designed to grant this administration yet more unwarranted authority over immigration policy. Powers that, despite the subterfuge of Paul Ryan and his colleagues, will pose a genuine threat in the future, should this trade deal be enacted.

As a surprisingly astute analysis of this pact published by Reason 2 years ago noted, this debate is about neither freedom nor trade. It is about enriching the political and economic fortunes of a few at the expense of almost everyone who doesn’t have access to a K Street lobbying firm or a direct line to the White House. It empowers a President who has used his dwindling time in office to abuse and exploit his Constitutional role, and  it adds more layers of coercion and bureaucracy to a system already designed to thwart the interests of ordinary citizens.

In short, it sucks.

Roadmap To The Future http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/01/roadmap-to-the-future/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2015/01/roadmap-to-the-future/#respond Sat, 17 Jan 2015 08:11:32 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=18416 450px-Jeff_Sessions_official_portrait

There’s a reason why I never tire of praising Senator Jeff Sessions, unlike almost every other parasite lurking within the nation’s capital. That is because there’s simply no one in public life with a keener appreciation of the danger our government’s policy of  unfettered immigration poses to our society, both in the short and the long term. The fact that Senator Sessions has earned the scorn of both his feckless colleagues in the U.S. Senate and half-wits like Alex Nowrasteh should tell you all you need to know about why this man is a treasure to Americans who view this country as something other than a global hostel.

You can read his entire 25 page-long policy proposal for the new Republican majority here, but for those of you with a slightly shorter attention span, Matthew Boyle has provided a fantastic synopsis on Breitbart.com. I recommend reading it and sending the link to someone who could use it.

Legislative Oversight http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/12/legislative-oversight/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2014/12/legislative-oversight/#respond Thu, 04 Dec 2014 05:47:50 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=18174 442px-Logo_of_C-SPAN.svg

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing earlier this week exploring Barack Obama’s recent executive action-a policy that the fourth estate’s deliberately misleading reportage has made even more confusing than its patently unconstitutional nature would ordinarily warrant. Thankfully, C-SPAN broadcast the proceedings in their entirety. You can watch the full hearing on C-SPAN’s website.

With each passing day, as more details behind this brazen power grab are exposed, the nation realizes the contempt with which this administration, and its toadies in Congress, holds the American public

The Maricopa County Republicans have boxed the ears of their state’s senior senator, overwhelmingly so.  Which begs the question, what were the 25% who didn’t vote for this eminently sensible resolution thinking? You would think the late Ted Kennedy’s junior partner in the Senate’s open border brigade would take the hint, but I doubt he will, alas.

Jobs and Justice http://american-rattlesnake.org/2013/08/jobs-and-justice/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2013/08/jobs-and-justice/#respond Fri, 30 Aug 2013 04:54:10 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=16126 "Hundreds of thousands descended on Washington, D.C.'s, Lincoln Memorial Aug. 28, 1963. It was from the steps of the memorial that King delivered his famous I Have a Dream speech. King's many speeches and nonviolent actions were instrumental in shaping the nation's outlook on equality." 8/28/1963

One of the more galling aspects of an otherwise unremarkable speech delivered by the President commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was the attempt to link the struggle of the Civil Rights Movement during the 20th century with the attempts by open borders demagogues to further erode the value of American citizenship. Although to most reasonable Americans the linkage between these two social-political movements would seem puzzling-if not patently offensive-it is one repeatedly made by the treason lobby, perhaps most bizarrely by the permanently deranged Frank Sharry, who compared the current plight of illegal aliens to the suffering of antebellum slaves in the United States.

Oddly enough, it wasn’t too long ago that seemingly principled liberals opposed legislation which would retard the economic progress of the poorest Americans while at the same time reinforcing entrenched stratification. And while some still oppose a bill that would handicap the most disadvantaged American workers-in spite of overwhelming pressure to capitulate to the prevailing  kultursmog-most have succumbed to the open borders ideology which animates most elite institutions.

That’s why the letter penned by Coretta Scott King-the widow of the man whose name is synonymous with the march President Obama honored a few days ago-and issued by the Black Leadership Forum in opposition to a law that also expanded the opportunities for immigrants while introducing the dreadful Diversity Lottery at the expense of working class Americans, is required reading. The fact that there was a point in the not so distant past where liberal Democrats opposed the machinations of the cheap labor lobby-rather than bragged about their alliance with the Chamber of Commerce-is information that needs to be impressed upon those who have not been paying attention to this momentous debate, which-like the March on Washington before it-will have an inalterable impact upon the future of this nation.

Injustice http://american-rattlesnake.org/2013/01/accountability-2/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2013/01/accountability-2/#respond Mon, 14 Jan 2013 22:53:30 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=13425

With the unfortunate news that Eric Holder is going to remain in his position as head of the Department of Justice for the second Obama term-at least for the foreseeable future-it’s only fitting that we take a cursory glance at the defining moment of his tenure as Attorney General. I refer, of course, to Operation Fast and Furious, which let high powered arms-of the sort demonized by anti-2nd Amendment demagogues and Holder apologists Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein-walk into the hands of ruthless Mexican drug cartels with the encouragement and under the leadership of Obama appointees in the ATF and Justice Department

One of those individuals is former Phoenix ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge George T. Gillett, Jr., a man who was entrusted with overseeing Fast and Furious for over half a year, beginning in late 2009. It’s now been confirmed that a gun from this lethally stupid operation has been traced back to Mr. Gillett personally. Anyone who’s followed the fallout from perhaps the single most outrageous abuse of power by the Obama administration is familiar with the casualties which have resulted from this scheme, which are spread across the entire hemisphere.

The lack of accountability throughout this administration for those officials responsible for its implementation-including Mr. Gillette and others who have been promoted in spite of their criminality-should be astonishing, but is in fact reflective of the habitual blame-shifting and hypocrisy at the heart of Barack Obama’s presidency. What’s more, it reflects the inherent double standards that animate our government, which seeks to deny innocent American citizens their constitutional rights even as its leaders promulgate illegal policies that lead to the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians abroad.

The same Capitol Hill gasbags eager to erode the 2nd Amendment in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, a campaign based upon non-existent facts, are the first to defend Eric Holder and Justice Department officials under whose purview Fast and Furious unfolded, and who have done everything in their power to obstruct congressional investigations into their actions.

Whether we will make any progress in achieving justice during the President’s second term is debatable. Will the media-with a few commendable exceptions-continue to cover up for the malicious actions of government officials? Will the senators who installed Eric Holder into his lofty position begin to question their unfailing loyalty to an Attorney General who has lost the confidence of the American public and, to a great degree, Congress?

We shall see. Something that this latest revelation confirms is that elections do have consequences, some of them fatal.

I’ll delve more deeply into President Obama’s Unemployment For Americans Act in future updates, but today I’d like to highlight a speech made by the intrepid Michelle Malkin at this weekend’s Right Online conference. It’s particularly apt in light of the President’s continued policy of lashing out at dissenters-not a new phenomenon, unfortunately-such as the Daily Caller’s Neil Munro.

Obstruction of Congress http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/02/obstruction-of-congress/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/02/obstruction-of-congress/#respond Sat, 11 Feb 2012 18:49:28 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=8818 The political fallout from Fast and Furious continues to grow, even as Eric Holder relentlessly adheres to a policy of stonewalling, obstruction, evasion, and lies, both in the media and during congressional testimony. The video below demonstrates not only Attorney General Holder’s notoriously spotty memory, but also his remarkable ability to deflect attention from his own potential criminal liability to something more politically palatable. In this case, curtailing the Constitutional rights of ordinary American citizens. Before watching Holder’s testimony before the committee of Rep. Sandy Adams it should be noted that CALEA-referred to several times throughout this brief excerpt-is the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, a federal wiretapping law that enhances the surveillance capabilities of federal law enforcement agencies such as the DEA, ATF, and FBI.

Kudos to the Hon. Sandy Adams for holding Eric Holder’s feet to the fire, and reminding him that for some Americans the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was not merely a tragedy, but the result of premeditated actions taken by this administration in order to perpetuate its comprehensive attack upon our 2nd Amendment rights. Let’s hope that the boldness of Rep. Adams, and not the pusillanimity of Speaker Boehner, carries the day.
