In 1621, when their labors were rewarded with a bountiful harvest after a year of sickness and scarcity, the Pilgrims gave thanks to God and celebrated His bounty in the Harvest Home tradition with feasting and sport (recreation). To these people of strong Christian faith, this was not merely a revel; it was also a joyous outpouring of gratitude. (Plimoth.org)

Our health, our wealth, and our gladness are all gifts from God. This Thanksgiving, remember to thank Him. Should you be so wretched as to be unable to give thanks, do not compound your misery by cursing Him. Such curses embitter the soul of him who utters them.

Give thanks for the rebukes the Lord brings to us, for without them how would we learn wisdom? Give thanks for the tribulations, for through them we learn our strength.

All glory is God’s. God bless America.

The Trains Should Run On Time http://american-rattlesnake.org/2017/08/the-trains-should-run-on-time/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2017/08/the-trains-should-run-on-time/#respond Mon, 28 Aug 2017 00:36:19 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=25637 The trains should run on time. Whether conducted by private enterprise or public bureaucracy, the trains should run on time. Lately, the subway’s always late. People’s lives are disrupted. Employees are late for work and late coming home. Kids miss events at day camps and schools. Restaurant reservations get cancelled and movies get missed. People’s lives are spent underground for an unnecessarily long time because of the subway’s incompetent, government-run management. New Yorkers suffer through it. The trains should run on time and yet they do not. All we can do is grumble.

Over three days in August, as Pamela Hall has just documented in the pages of American Rattlesnake, demonstrators clogged midtown Manhattan. They alternatively advocated for the impeachment or assassination of President Trump. They physically assaulted his supporters. They denounced the rule of law over immigration. They demonized white people in general. It is odd that the same people who beat up members of the Jewish Defense League turn around to call Trump a NAZI.

In all this staged outrage, there was not one sign about the mess underground that is fouling up people’s lives and the proper subject of  public outrage. Not one complaint that the City of New York, monolithically run by the Democrats, can not get its act together and competently carry out a basic city function. Do not invent rights for foreigners to evade my country’s immigration laws and then encourage them to spurn her history and language. Tell me that the E train is running on time and without delays.

The IRS =/= Big Butts http://american-rattlesnake.org/2017/04/the-irs-the-antithesis-of-big-butts/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2017/04/the-irs-the-antithesis-of-big-butts/#respond Tue, 18 Apr 2017 18:57:44 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=25024

Sir Mix-A-Lot, who extolled the female posterior in “Baby Got Back”, was equally adept at excoriating the grasping IRS.

Click “Read More” for the lyrics:

There’s a black man livin in a big (big) house
Three credit cards fulla fat (fat) clout
Fatass garage holdin nine (nine) cars
One of them Mack Daddy rap (rap) stars
Me, rollin in the AMG still
?Six slater? with the monochrome grille
Don’t serve birds but I’m livin like a king
But the IRS got a thing for a brother like me
Uncle Sam wanna buy another missile (yep)
Strip Mix-a-Lot straight down to the gristle (mm)
I made a few mil’ and the auditors come
Sounds dumb, but this is how the phone got hung (yep)
Somebody hated that Mix-a-Lot rep
Straight-up snitch tryin to get Mix sw-ept
But I’m back, the black dynamo’s on track
I got jack for the big tax
Yep, they freeze my accounts, put a lean on my house (mmm)
Straight left a nigga AAAAAASSED OUT
Helicopters over my house (my house)
Takin pictures of a brother in his draws wit his thing out (uhh)
Livin the life of a suspected crook
Cause I never play the game by the book
If you’re livin too large, ya better watch that ass
Cause the IRS,
Is gonna take yo stash

Why you wanna take my stash?

Why you wan’ take my stash?

Why you wanna take my stash?

D-O-T came to my house, tell me wassup
You wanna huff and puff and take a brother’s stuff?
Then I saw the treasury badge –
This is bigger than One-Time, so I got mad
So what do ya got to say about me,
The M-I-X-A-L-O, T?
He starts scopin my house, havin his doubts
About a brother with street AND bank clout
His partner was writin on a thick (thick) pad
Checkin out the goodies that Mix (Mix) had
Trippin off the things that I bought (bought) cash
Tryin to send a brother up-state (state) fast
Yep (yep), livin on the edge, I swear
The government is tryin to keep a brother (brother) scared
Rappers wanna talk about, life’s unfair?
Well I’ve seen the eyes of the big bad bear
TAXMAN COMIN, TAXMAN TAKIN
TAXMAN’S A PIMP, SO THE TAXMAN BREAKIN (yeah)
Ordered my books, now who’s the real crooks?
On the streets, now I’m gettin funny looks (‘sup fool?)
Everybody’s thinkin I’m broke (broke)
Do I smoke (smoke), or am I sellin the coke?
Now I’m keepin my receipts for the gas,
Cause the IRS,
Is tryin to take my stash

Why you wanna take my stash?

Why you wan’ take my stash?

Why you wanna take my stash?

But +I Checks My Bank+ so I paid ’em (yep)
They put a tap on my phone and I made ’em (mmm)
I paid ’em, two hundred and eighty-five G’s
And now it’s just a ninety-one fee (god damn)
I ain’t tellin no lies, fool, ’cause I’m real with this
And muthafuckas can’t deal with this
Some call me the sixty mil’ man
And now I’m trippin off a uncle named Sam
But a mack just can’t go bank (bank) rupt
Still payin well ’cause I make (make) cuts
Accountants on the regular, checkin my ends
Bought another fresh drop top (top) Benz
Yep yep yep, +Just Da Pimpin in Me+
Twenty G’s on the block when I hit L.B.
Stashed a lil’ bread in the ninety-three
Bill collectors don’t see me, G!
In this fort, I’m the man with the miracle torque
To pull through all sorts of them tax ?odds?
In ’94, I know I gotta think fast
Cause they’ll be back, tryin to take my stash

(work too hard)
Why you wanna take my stash?
(work too hard)
Why you wan’ take my stash?
(work too hard)
Break it on down!

Ha ha, bring it back!

Why you wanna take my stash?

Huh!

Why you wanna take my stash?

Why you wanna take my stash, fool? Yuh!

Why you wanna take my stash?

Why you wanna take my stash?

Why you wanna take my stash … mista guv’ nah?

As the Long March of the left burns and hacks its way through the nation’s remaining cultural institutions-reenacting the Cultural Revolution on American soil-and Europeans who balk at being invaded by the vanguards of Islam are condemned as Islamophobic bigots, it’s appropriate to reflect on the words  of a woman who is considered by many to be America’s greatest poet. She captures the surreality of living in a time and place where rational thought has been cast out of the public square.

Daguerreotype of the poet Emily Dickinson, taken circa 1848. (Original version.) From the Todd-Bingham Picture Collection and Family Papers, Yale University Manuscripts & Archives Digital Images Database, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.

Much Madness is divinest Sense –

To a discerning Eye –
Much Sense – the starkest Madness –
’Tis the Majority
In this, as all, prevail –
Assent – and you are sane –
Demur – you’re straightway dangerous –
And handled with a Chain –

Beijing Cracks Down on Illegal Immigrants http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/05/beijing-cracks-down-on-illegal-immigrants/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/05/beijing-cracks-down-on-illegal-immigrants/#respond Sat, 26 May 2012 06:00:42 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=10359 The Chinese authorities in Beijing are doing exactly what New York City should be doing to deal with illegal immigrants:  cracking down on them.

As CNN reports, the Chinese have started:

a 100-day campaign to “clean out” non-Chinese living or working illegally in the city. Until the end of August, all foreigners are expected to always have on them a valid passport, visa and resident permit…

If not, they will face repercussions, which range from fines to police detention and deportation.

A number for a hotline locals can call to report suspicious foreigners was also included in the announcement. Since then, the police presence in the main expat and student areas of the city has noticeably increased, households and companies have been spot checked, and queues at local police stations to register residency are large.

It ‘s been a pain in the keister getting back online, but now we’re back.  More details will be forthcoming, but right now us rattlesnake handlers are tired and we’re going to sleep.

We’ll keep up the good fight as long as you, our fellow patriotic Americans and other sympathetic souls, support us.  Sorry for the hiccup, folks.

Vigilance is the price of liberty.  Sometimes you get lazy and you have to work extra hard to clean up the mess.

Immigration Scofflaws Crave Publicity http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/03/immigration-scofflaws-crave-publicity/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/03/immigration-scofflaws-crave-publicity/#respond Tue, 13 Mar 2012 15:00:39 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=9359

USA Today is reporting on a new strategy self-entitled immigration scofflaws are using to stay in this country.  They exploit public sympathy and liberal news outlets to publicize their illicit immigration status and demand the right to stay in this country:

Abdollahi’s parents immigrated to the U.S. from Iran on a student visa when he was 3, but did not return when the visa expired, so the entire family was living in the U.S. illegally. Abdollahi heeded his parents advice, until two years ago when he felt they were getting close to being deported.

That’s when Abdollahi did the unthinkable — he got himself arrested during a May 2010 protest of immigration policies and had a friend alert immigration officials of the arrest. He figured that if his case was made public, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials would be hard-pressed to deport him.

As the case of Daniela Pelaez proved last week, this strategy can work when uncritical media reports manage to pull the heart strings of a well-meaning public.

Do Your Part To End Slavery http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/03/do-your-part-to-end-slavery/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/03/do-your-part-to-end-slavery/#respond Tue, 06 Mar 2012 22:22:50 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=9190 There is something you can do to stop the most heinous abuses of illegal immigrants, and it can be as simple as making a phone call.

American Rattlesnake recently recounted the tale of “V.M.” an Indian maid kept in servitude in upstate New York.

Most striking is how this injustice was found out — by a simple phone call. Immigration officials were tipped off to the situation by information provided by the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, who themselves got the information through an anonymous tip.

Illegal immigration harms the legitimate residents of this country, by depressing wages and working conditions, and by promoting law-breaking, insular, un-American communities.  But too often illegal immigrants are victims themselves.

By reporting their abuse, you can help them, and help stop the worst traffickers of illegal immigrants into this country.  If you suspect something suspicious, you can call the NHTRC directly at 1-888-3737-888, or make a report via the Polaris Project.

Latinos Liberal, Not Stupid, On Immigration http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/03/latinos-liberal-not-stupid-on-immigration/ http://american-rattlesnake.org/2012/03/latinos-liberal-not-stupid-on-immigration/#respond Tue, 06 Mar 2012 14:03:04 +0000 http://american-rattlesnake.org/?p=9221

To listen to the Democratic Party, Latinos have political tunnel-vision, caring only about immigration issues.   Latinos, like the rest of their fellow Americans, care about a broad array of issues.
A quick look at the Univision homepage bears this out.  That may be a bad example — a quick look at the Univision homepage suggests Latinos are obsessed with women in bikinis.

Fox News has just released a poll of American Latino voters, and the results are worthy of careful consideration.

Latinos’ first concern, like the rest of us, is the state of the economy.  They care about immigration, but more from a personal point of view:

“The question for most Latinos is not whether they want more immigration or less immigration,” said Allert Brown-Gort, associate director of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame. “It has to do not so much with the (candidate’s) stance on immigration, but the attitude that Latinos perceive that Republicans have of Latinos when they talk about immigration.”

And while Latinos currently support some amnesty programs like the DREAM Act, they are also against open borders:

In the poll, many Latinos showed support for enforcement of immigration laws – 56 percent say that having “open borders” would be detrimental to the United States, hurting the economy. Slightly more than 30 percent differ, believing open borders would help the economy.

As American Rattlesnake has documented, getting tough on violators of immigration laws is a winning political strategy, even in states with a large Latino population.

The Fox News poll is a valuable snapshot of the current mood of the 12 million Latino voters in this country, and worthy of direct perusal by American Rattlesnake readers.
