Hope With Heart

One of the wonderful things about this season is the spirit of giving it inspires among ordinary Americans, who by almost any measure rank as the most generous people  on the planet. In keeping with that spirit of generosity, I’d like to highlight a worthwhile organization whose mission hits very close to home. My family has a history of heart disease which usually manifests itself later in life. Unfortunately, my cousin Sean Mellon  had a congenital heart condition that took his life just as he was on the cusp of adulthood and looking forward to an incredibly bright future.

One of the things that Sean enjoyed in his tragically brief time with us was a recreational camp for children who were born with severely limiting heart conditions. Hope with Heart is a wonderful organization  in New York which allows kids who are otherwise not allowed to participate in activities that are routine to enjoy a normal summer and form enduring friendships with boys and girls who suffer from similar difficulties. I urge everyone-even those of you who haven’t been personally impacted by heart disorders-to check it out for yourself, and if you feel inclined help them continue their goal of giving boys and girls with heart some extra hope.
