It turns out that calling for a boycott of your own state in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression isn’t a boon to your political fortunes, as Congressman Raul Grijalva is discovering this election cycle.

To grasp the full stupidity of Grijalva’s decision to embargo his state you have to listen to the interview in which he declared his views, conducted by Keith Olbermann. As embarrassing as this stance might seem to most people, the truth is that even now Grijalva has only partially walked balk from his call for a widespread, ethnic-based boycott, conceding that his statement was a “strategic” mistake, but not admitting that trying to impose unemployment upon many of the constituents in his heavily-Hispanic district was a mistake.

Thankfully, there’s an alternative to reelecting Raul Grijalva, and that alternative is called Ruth McClung.
