Pew Hispanic Center Report

To put the story  I highlighted a few days ago into perspective, here’s an interactive map provided by the Pew Hispanic Center that illustrates the scale of the problem we’re facing when we speak about illegal aliens.

As you can see, illegal aliens comprise over three percent of the population in New York State, but what’s even more disturbing is that over five and a half percent of our labor force consists of members of this group. Keep in mind, we live in a state that currently has an unemployment rate of over eight percent, yet there are still hundreds of thousands of people who are not legally authorized to work-or even to be in the United States-occupying potential jobs.

There are a number of other interesting aspects to the Pew Report-including the unsurprising statistic that over sixty percent of the illegal population hails from Mexico-but I suggest you read it in full in order to get a better grasp of the dimensions of this problem.
